About Parag Saxena
Parag Saxena is an India enthusiast who is at the helm of New Silk Route (NSR Partners) a 1.383 USD billion fund focused on investing in India and other parts of southeast Asia. A distinguished alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Parag has made it to the Forbes’ Midas List of top global investors multiple times. Across his 35 year plus career, Parag has led and been a part of teams that have made investments in companies that have created hundreds of thousands of jobs and have a market value of $USD 500 billion. Parag Saxena is a skillful dealmaker who strongly believes in having the operating experience edge when it comes to managing investments.
Parag has served on the committees advising the Prime Minister of India on foreign direct investment and the Planning Commission of India on venture capital. He has also addressed Congressional Members on Venture Capital and Healthcare.
Previously, he was Chief Executive Officer of Invesco Private Capital (and its predecessor firms), a venture capital firm in the U.S. During his 23-year tenure at Invesco, over 300 investments were made, including Amgen, Costco, PictureTel, Polycom, Staples and Starbucks. Mr. Saxena led more than 90 investments for Invesco Private Capital (and its predecessor firms), a third of which went on to become public companies. These investments include Alkermes, Celgene, Genomic Health, Indigo, Masimo, Transgenomic, Xenon Pharmaceuticals, Amber Networks, ARM Holdings, Horizon Health Corp. and MetroPCS. He started his investing career in 1983 with Citicorp Investment Management (later became Chancellor Management
NSR’s India based investments include Café Coffee Day, VRL Logistics, Punjab National Bank Housing Finance, Vasudev Adidas Nectar Lifesciences, Ascend Telecommunications Infrastructure, Rolex Rings Pvt. Limited and other companies promoted by Indian entrepreneurs.
A charter President of TIE Tristate Chapter, (The Indus Entrepreneurs – NY/N and CT), Parag has supported many innovative healthcare and technology entrepreneurs as well as cultural institutions like the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in New York where he has served as a Trustee and is a long-time supporter of South Asian Youth Action and other philanthropic organizations supporting education, youth development and cultural advancement. Parag Saxena is on the India Advisory Council at Brown University and he also serves on the Advisory Board of University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Advanced Study of India (CASI) and directs the Indian Institute of Technology’s Heritage Fund.
A student of the stars Parag is also on the U.S. Advisory Council of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has served on the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development.
Parag completed his Engineering degree at IIT Bombay and completed his master’s in chemical engineering from the University of West Virginia. He did his MBA at Wharton from the University of Pennsylvania.
Parag Saxena practices yoga and is an avid fan of tennis and cricket. He loves the mountains and taking long walks along nature trails.
